Best Living Room Chairs For Lower Back Pain

Best Living Room Chairs For Lower Back Pain

It’s quite important, now more than ever before, to find the best living room chairs for lower back pain and here’s why: around 80% of people report lower back pain during their lifetime. It’s one of the most common causes of disability and a leading cause of missed workdays.  More than one in four – 27% – of people reported having back pain during the last 90 days. Clearly then, back pain is one of the most common problems in today’s day and age.

The biggest cause of back pain is muscle and ligament strain –  what many people don’t know is that chairs are to blame for a lot of that. Owing to the awkward position most people sit in, usually in their severely uncomfortable chairs, they slowly develop lower back problems. In this article, we chose our top 7 chairs to help you fight the pain and possibly even reverse it.

The most important thing in a chair, especially to people with lower back pain, is the comfort of your lower back and your hips. If your hips aren’t comfortable, from our experience, your lower back takes on the weight of your whole upper body, and that can wear out the back muscles over time. So when trying out your new chair, be sure to pay attention to the comfort of your hips. Here’s our best chair choices for lower back pain:

Jummico Thick Seat Cushion Adjustable Recliner Chair With Backrest

Jummico recliner

Jummico is covered with quality fabric and has a thick padding, so it’s very comfortable. The size is just right and it’s surprisingly good for the low cost. Rest assured your back will be pleased. Very comfortable for the hips. It also has a very stable steel footrest that can be adjusted to any angle – perfect for offloading your back and relaxation during rest time. You can put it in a living room, a bedroom, dining room, home theater, wherever. The recliner is quite adjustable (90 to 165 degrees). It’s not hard to fall asleep, read or watch TV on it. Its maximum capacity is 265 lbs, so it’s quite durable. The dimensions are around 20x62x30 L-W-H. It even has a free replacement and refund that lasts 30 days, no matter what the problem is. Missing or damaged parts can be replaced within 6 months. But, there are two cons. Firstly, it’s around 60 pounds, so it’s not light. Secondly, the arms of the chair seem kinda low when you are fully reclined, though that might be for my body type only. The setup is very easy, 5 minutes at most, no tools needed – just screw the legs on and push on the back until you hear a click. The customer service is great. Verdict: This chair is awesome!

Red Hook Martina Contemporary Upholstered Armless Accent Chair

Red Hook Martina Contemporary Upholstered Armless Accent Chair

This pretty armless chair (+ a bonus matching pillow that will help ease the back and hip pain) brings a modern style to any living room. It’s quite comfortable to sit on, especially for people with lower back pain because of it’s highly-dense foam padding that ensures satisfaction and comfort. It’s also made in such a way that it can take the weight off your back and place it a bit more on your legs. It has a solid sturdy wooden frame and is quite stable. We placed 250 lbs on the chair to see how it handles weight: it’s fantastic. The legs even include floor protectors. Seat height is 18 inches while the chair measures 32 by 23 by 36.5 inches L-W-H. Assembly is very easy and takes 5-15 minutes as it has only 2 pieces and two legs including a wrench and some screws. Additionally, for those of you with a big butt, it has a big seat. Overall, very attractive, comfortable and stable. The only con it may have is that the chair sits pretty low to the ground, so that might be a problem for people with very long legs – although it is quite deep, so you can enjoy it too. The Amazon reviews are very positive, having 4.4 out of 5 stars – most people are very satisfied with the chair.

Giantex Upholstered Armless Accent Fabric Chair With Wood Legs

Giantex Upholstered Armless Accent Fabric Chair With Wood Legs

With an averagely padded seat, this chair is nothing special considering the price. It’s advertised as having a resilient wooden frame, but I’m not convinced of its durability. It’s quite relaxing at first, I must admit, but I don’t see myself sitting on it in the long run. It has multiple colors, so you can match your home decor, but the problem is: the color delivered is significantly darker than the one advertised. Light blue looks like dark blue. It has the benefit of feeling quite soft on touch, and it’s also quite stable, all legs being equal in length. It’s suited for use in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens or anything else, really. The backrest is nice, but I’ve seen better. It’s moderately easy to install, especially considering I didn’t get all of the stuff needed. I tried contacting the company but got no response so I had to pay around 15$ more for the stuff missing, and that’s quite annoying. The tools and everything else are in the back, behind the velcro seat. It’s light enough to easily move around but tough enough to carry at least 210 pounds on weight (maybe more, that’s as far as we’ve tested). Helpful tip: don’t screw the post all the way up the base, otherwise, it’s too short to attach to the base.

Roundhill Blended Leather Tufted Accent Chair With Oversized Seating

Roundhill Blended Leather Tufted Accent Chair With Oversized Seating

If you think this is a chair, you are mistaken. It looks and it feels like a throne, therefore it is a throne. Its oversized seating provides comfort and a modern look, while the leather and the hardwood frame are impressively durable and sturdy. This chair helps your back – the time I got home from my office, my spine and tailbone were killing me because of my uncomfortable office chair – and I cannot express in words the relief this chair has brought me. This is, in my humble opinion, the best living room chair for lower back problems on this list. Size is 27 by 31 by 34 (W-L-H). It requires fifteen to twenty minutes of very simple assembly, everything needed is in the box, along with the instructions. Some people outlined that screw holes don’t line up, but I had no such problem. Helpful tip: look for the parts under the velcro bottom seat cover.  The color is slightly darker than what my monitor is showing, but that turned out to be a plus since it looks even better (even more throne-y). For the low price, it has an incredibly expensive luxury-like look. The legs blend perfectly into the overall simplistic design of the chair. It weighs 22 pounds. The reviews on Amazon are quite positive, as the chair has an average of 4.3 stars. Overall, I can’t imagine how you can beat this chair for the price.

Christopher Knight Living Room Felicity Charcoal Armchair

Christopher Knight Living Room Felicity Charcoal Armchair

This is a very simple, beautiful, skillfully-crafted armchair. It looks very fresh. The back support is quite exceptional, sitting at just the optimal angle, and will for sure ease the back pain. This chair is mid-sized. The overall construction of the chair is excellent, as it is very sturdy. It is 100% polyester, with legs made of natural birch. The cushion is extra padded and helps the hips. It weighs 30.1 pounds, and it’s dimensions are 25 by 30 by 31 (W-L-H). The color of the chair was exactly as it is in the picture, although some say it arrived looking a bit pale. Came adequately packaged and in healthy condition. Unlike what many people think, the assembly process is not difficult in the slightest. The legs simply screw on and it’s ready for use. Overall, it’s a first-class chair with a very good value for money. You surely get what you pay for. The back could be a tiny bit higher, but it’s still good. The customer support is good and it has very favorable reviews on Amazon, averaging a score of 4.2. If I was a student on a budget with a bad back, this is something I would seriously consider. It’s not the best chair for sale I sat in, but it’s good value for money.

Red Hook Martina Upholstered Armless Accent Chair – Frozen

Red Hook Martina Upholstered Armless Accent Chair – Frozen

This chair is perfect for small- to mid-size spaces. It measures 29 by 21 by 32 inches L-W-H and very easily fits through doorways. Weighs around 25 pounds, and it can take quite a lot of weight. The main materials are wood and a textile cover. It’s very comfortable, especially the back support –  so it’s quite nice for your back pain. The chair fits very nicely into bedrooms, dining rooms, small offices or living rooms. It has a vigorous pattern with decorative circle-like shapes and curly vines, with red-brown wooden legs. It’s quite sturdy and looks high quality, especially considering the low cost. The only con of this chair for me was the fact that the legs for the chair were hidden inside the seat, so you have to peel the velcro off. It was hard to find, but now you know. In short, it’s a solid, comfortable chair with durable fabric – it would be more comfortable if it had arms though. The Amazon reviews are mixed for some reason, some of them claiming it arrived with problems, some claiming that it had incomplete instructions. From my experience, Red Hook, the maker of the chair, usually does a pretty good job with shipping and making of quality chairs. I definitely would recommend it, especially since it’s the cheapest one.

Stone & Beam Lummi Modern Armless Living Room Accent Chair

Modern Armless Timeless

Generally speaking, Stone & Beam produce good chairs with an ergonomic design. This one is no exception, with its unique modern style. The delicate fabric and simple ergonomic design blends well into any living room. It’s very soft and quite suitable for dealing with back problems, but it’s not one of the best living room chairs for lower back problems. It has a beechwood frame enveloped in polyester. The assembly is quite easy and minimal, as the holes line right up – although having a second pair of hands speeds up the process – and you get everything you need with the chair. The tested weight was 250 pounds, and it held just fine which is surprising considering the size miniature of the chair. It can be used by kids, although it’s sized for adults. Stone & Beam seem very confident in this chair, as they are giving out free returns for 30 days and an amazing 3-year warranty. All in all, it’s comfortable for hips and back and quite adorable.
